Nursing Homes
Before being admitted to a nursing facility, every individual must sign a contract. The nursing home contract is a legal agreement between the facility and the residents that spells out rights and responsibilities for both. It is the first place you should look to determine the nursing facility's obligations -- and can serve as a good checklist to follow to make sure care and services are as promised.
Never sign a contract on the first visit to a nursing facility. Take it home and review it with family members or other trusted people. Also consider reviewing it with a financial advisor and lawyer.
The contract should cover policies such as charges, liability, complaints, rights, and responsiblities.
Be sure you understand when the resident should sign the contract vs. when a third party should sign.
