Learn about Care Options

Hospice

Hospice costs less than most other types of care for a number of reasons. It usually involves less technical equipment and fewer medical procedures than other nursing care, the patient is most often cared for at home instead of in a hospital, and patients need only pay for the services they require. Still, hospice care can cost several thousand dollars — and more than that if it is required for more than a few months.

While each hospice has its own policies concerning payment for care, it is a principle of hospice to offer services based upon need rather than the ability to pay. While hospice care is a covered benefit under many insurance plans, hospices also rely heavily upon community support for donations to provide care to those who cannot otherwise afford it.
