Hospice
File a Complaint
A patient, friend, or family member who finds a hospice care provider’s services lacking, negligent, or abusive should take action to right the wrong. There are a number of steps to take to deal with the problem.
Contact the Provider
The first step is to contact the hospice agency administrator and try to resolve the issue. Put complaints in writing to the administrator and ask for a written response — giving him or her a fair chance to address your concerns.
Contact Enforcement Agencies
For more information about possible violations of care guidelines, contact the local office of the California Department of Health Services Licensing and Certification (L&C) Program or call its hotline at 800-554-0354.
If you suspect a hospice care provider has committed elder abuse, report it to the local office of California Adult Protective Services, call the Office of the Attorney General, Bureau of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse at 800-722-0432, or consult an experienced attorney for help.
